Cirque Lucid was founded by Mitchell Eckert and Sarah Visser; artists who, while building careers abroad, longed to stay connected to Canada and their families without stepping away from their profession.

Cirque Lucid was founded to fill an important gap in Western Canada’s arts community in creating Contemporary Circus productions and entertainment. Many of the region’s most talented artists spend the majority of their careers performing abroad, since opportunities within Canada are limited. Our mission is to change that by building a home for strong, high-quality circus shows in Western Canada — shows that rival the artistry and scale you might otherwise find only in Montreal or on an international stage.

While other companies in the region focus on corporate events, showgirl and cabaret style entertainment, or family fun, Cirque Lucid is first and foremost committed to creating and presenting professional contemporary circus shows. Alongside our productions, we also participate in corporate and community events, offer a dedicated queer performance portfolio in partnership with a queer events entertainment group 'G-Labs' by Gerardo Balderas Figueroa, and will provide workshops both online and in person.

At its core, Cirque Lucid exists to give Canadian artists more opportunities to perform, to foster a vibrant circus community here at home, and to bring audiences in Western Canada access to the kind of innovative, world-class circus experiences that are too often found only abroad.
